Editorial : An Best Book of August 2015: Susan Casey’s Voices in the Ocean opens with a near perfect set piece about a swim she once took in Maui. Her father had died two years prior, and she was still struggling with her feelings over the loss. Casey wades out at dusk for a solo ocean swim. Inspired by a profound experience swimming with wild dolphins off the coast of Maui, Susan Casey set out on a quest to learn everything she could about these creatures. Her journey takes her from a community in Hawaii known as “Dolphinville,” where the animals are seen as the key to spiritual enlightenment, to the dark side of the human-cetacean relationship at marine parks and dolphin-hunting grounds in Japan and the Solomon Islands, to the island of Crete, where the Minoan civilization lived in harmony with dolphins, providing a millennia-old example of a more enlightened coexistence with the natural world.
Along the way, Casey recounts the history of dolphin research and introduces us to the leading marine scientists and activists who have made it their life’s work to increase humans’ understanding and appreciation of the wonder of dolphins—the other intelligent life on the plan

A particular strength of the book is that there are also good sections that address areas that are not usually considered in the current literature. In my eyes Patrice Gaines is a remarkable women. However, the end of the book does connect them so do read on.. When last we left former Syndicate hireling, hit man Glen Marker (a.k.a. Or a breakthrough in string theory. Out-of-body experiences are one thing. I just kept thinking how is it possible for these authors to know soooo much about ME, it's just plain eery. And hard to empathize with. Even though the mother was preoccupied, there were housekeepers and many others around to notice. Ms James' is fourth generation South Dakotan so I suspect that she knows how folks speak in that neck of the woods and I appreciate her sharing it those of us who don't.<
